YOUR CANCER JOURNEY
Being given a cancer diagnosis can be a tough and scary time. There may be decisions to be made, your own fears and anxieties to face, procedures and surgery to go through and uncertainty of what to expect along the way. Many people naturally find their anxiety levels rise and in some cases depressive thoughts start to occur. Some people have fears about treatments or procedures. Others have difficulty focusing or sleeping.
It’s quite normal for mental health to suffer during this time or even shortly after – in fact many people sail through diagnosis, treatment and recovery and then find the shock kicks in and they need some help once they have been given the all clear.
Complimentary therapies including hypnosis are becoming more and more widely used in hospital settings to promote mental health in order to keep you focused on those good, healthy and strong parts of you. Empirical research shows that hypnosis techniques can help:
- speed up recovery from surgery and other procedures
- help reduce pain and nausea
- combat sleep problems and eating problems
- reduce anxiety & fear
- connect you with your strong inner resources
- promote a general sense of wellbeing.

Although complementary therapies do not cure cancer, they can have a positive effect in reducing unwanted symptoms as seen in the research article below:
