Anxiety & Stress

Anxiety and Stress, although sometimes have similar symptoms, stem from different areas.

Stress usually begins with an external cause, such as work problems, relationship difficulties etc.

Stress can cause disturbing life changes such as escalation of negative emotions, putting unrealistic pressures on yourself and physiological symptoms such as headaches, racing heartbeat, palpitations and muscular tension. During a session we will explore your stress triggers and devise a plan to minimalise your stress response. Of course, I will then use hypnosis techniques to help you deal with potentially stressful situations in a more rational and healthier way which will give you the resilience to manage existing and future challenges more effectively.

Anxiety begins internally with a feeling of discomort, unease or dread and can escalate.

  Anxiety is a normal and natural response – It helps give us the push to prepare for interviews, study for exams and keeps us safe whilst trying new activities or indeed if we are in a dangerous environment. We feel a bit anxious for a while and then once any threat or new situation is over, the anxiety fades away. When anxiety doesn’t come and go but starts to escalate and become an everyday occurrence, it can start to affect us physically as well as mentally. We can feel tired, overwhelmed, angry and frustrated and we often start to feel anxious about being anxious. Anxiety like this may have just crept up on you or it might have started with an event (which you may or not be aware of).

During a hypnosis session we explore the causes of that anxiety  and work with techniques to manage any future anxiety. I work on a ‘one size definitely does not fit all’  basis and therefore together we can create a combination of techniques which will best help you and which you can take away and use for yourself.

Unlike other talking therapies, sometimes I might only ask you for the absolute minimum of information. Please don’t be offended – I’m always happy for you to tell me your story briefly but if  we can gain resolution quickly without going into too much detail, then we want to get cracking on finding a solution rather than dwelling too much on the past.
